 Post subject: diseases and health issues with guinea fowls?

Hey there just wanted to know if there were any diseases and health issues with guinea fowls I should know about before I buy some and if I need to lookout for anything when view guinea fowls to buy

There are very few issues as long as you feed and house them well. Make sure you worm them regularly and feed them twice a day and offer greens.

When you go out to purchase look for good tight feathering, very active fowl, clear eyes and check their feet and legs for scale. Also they should have good red colour in the wattles and cere (see the picture below) Note the lumps or bumps on the cere that is perfectly normal for helmeted guinea fowl particularly pearl and the males can be larger than the hen pictured below.

Thats great information thank you so much for the detail. I have looked at some and I did notice the lumps on the face above the beak on some, they really do have a face only a mum could love. I love the eye brows on the girl

I have 14 males with huge lumps on the cere 3 times that of the female in the picture and it just adds to their ugliness well close up ugliness they look ok from a distance

Thanks for all the info, looked at a lot over the last few days and more than half had those lumps above the beak but none of the breeders even mentioned it and when I did they laughed and said its normal. All of them warned me about another forum and the false info there and said to come here but I already had.
