I have a guinea mum with 5 of nine keets.
She laid 11 eggs. 2 were duds. 9 hatched.
Dad attacked my dog and was killed for his efforts in protecting his keets.
He also attacked the terrier prior to that and left a nasty wound on her head which has healed.
I sent her and the babies to a friends place for safety and they were there for just over a month.
One died there with no obvious reason. I gave her 2 for looking after them.So that left 6.
When I got them home one of my dogs killed one when it went over the fence.
So all in all I have 5 keets and 1 mum left. They are lavender pieds all of them.
She is a very protective mother and the keets are gorgeous.

After my rambling how long after hatching her babies will she start to lay again.

Yes and I have never seen a chook be that protective. My terrier will not go near the keets again.I do wish she would get a lesson like that with the chickens, ducklings and goslings. She kills them for the devil of it. She taught my Maremma to do the same.

My terrier was always a small bird killer, she would take a dove on the wing when she was younger and slimmer.
She also would take a chicken if she could. She grew up with my shepherd (rip) and he never did any of that.
I have lost a number of chickens, ducklings and goslings since we have lived here. Beau (maremma) would join in and no matter what I do he won't stop. They are never hungry so I don't know why they persist in killing babies like that.
I am on edge whenever there are any babies in the run until they get big enough to not be noticed.
The guineas have got the terrier bluffed as she was badly hurt when she tried to get a keet. The dad, as I have stated, attacked her and so has the mother, so she won't go near them now. Beau is now leaving them alone thank goodness, it's just that if he does chase them he may get attacked by mum and retaliate in turn.
