I bred 10 last season...very happy with that. Gotta keep up the maggots when they're breeding too. Always remove the hen from the aviary when she lays a maximum, I repeat a MAXIMUM of 3 eggs. As 1, she can get really aggressive and possibly kill the chicks and 2, the male will be too pre-occupied with trying to mate with the hen rather than sitting on his eggs.

Be very careful with the hens as she can harass anything on the ground, no matter what the size. I have seen them attack Nicobar Pigeons.

...and it's also a good idea to clip their wings...

Remember, Button-quails are not "True Quails" they are closely related to Plains Wanderers, Water Hens (Coots, moorehens, swamphens etc), Bustards and Cranes.

Differences are, that Button-quails have 3 toes, not 4 of the True Quails. Females are bigger and brighter than males, opposite with True Quails. Solitary, unlike the harems of true Quail. Only males look after the eggs & chicks, both sexes in True Quail.

other than that...happy breeding :D

I'll do my best but won't make any promises :P

I wouldn't have a clue...It's a simple process, but hard to explain without showing you...

You tell me, you do live in the Mountains ;)

Trust me, I have a better maintenance program for them now to prevent further inbreeding...unfortunately I had to work with what I have...when you think about almost half the bird species in parks/zoos/sanctuaries etc are inbred!
