This morning, The Pretty One, known to our family as Lola died in my arms.

I found, Lola limp at the bottom of the coop when I went to feed her...I took her out and gave her Poly Aid and she seemed to perk up content to sit on my lap...

Lola was donated by our local Rotary to help PP and indeed our entire family heal and recover from the trauma of the bushfires of 2009. Lola was the mother of The Lavender Gang. As PP has often said that chooks have mystical healing powers and indeed Mr. Rooster, Boss Chookie and The Pretty One have helped us heal many wounds than more people would ever know. Boss Chookie and The Pretty One and their off spring have helped my family heal to the best that we can possibly AFTER THE BUSHFIRES OF '09. They gave us hope...New life and a reason to live...

On behalf of PP and my family we sincerely thank jenneye, johs and Chickababe for their kindness and support.

People today have told me that The Pretty One/Lola was only a chook as is Lady Frances, expendable. I beg to differ, these girls were a BIG part of our family and they MADE A DIFFERENCE...In our lives and in the lives of each other...They were a part of our family and made a difference...A BLOODY BIG DIFFERENCE! Surviving a bushfire and other traumas should never be taken likely, it does take it's toll and if one feather friend can help heal then stop and think the difference that they make in our lives.

I have spent the day desperately looking for new friends for Frances. I have had no success, apparently the wrong time of year with the beginning of breeding season.

The Pretty One/Lola has left such a BIG gaping hole in all our hearts. Lola died in my arms this morning, she had problems breathing, when I found her I felt so helpless...She rests in peace under the olive trees, her favourite place to dust bath with Lady Frances...

We have a grieving chook who doesn't understand that her best friend is not coming home to roost...

Any help and advice is appreciated, we are ALL heartbroken...

I can totally understand the impact they can make in your life. Losing them can sometimes be heartbreaking. They can be much more then 'just' a chook. As you care for them you find out about their individual personalities and idiosyncrasies and they really do become apart of the family. I think many people would also agree how therapeutic they can be.

Really sorry to hear about your loss Petite Poulet, sounded like she was pretty special.

I hope you can find a new friend for Lady Frances soon..

To PP and family,

With deepest condolences on the passing of Lola.

ILoveMyChickes and myself understand whole heartedly the impact of the 09 bush fires and the process of recovery through the assistance of our feathered family. Through our chats today we have also realised how very special our feathered friends are to our family life.

After hearing Frances crying and see her pacing the coop, it is so very clear that she is grieving for her bestie. Hopefully a solution to add a couple of girls will be found in the not too distant future.

With heartfelt sympathy

Oh P P & family, [smilie=a_damnit.gif] [smilie=a_cry.gif] [smilie=a_damnit.gif]

I am so sorry to hear about The Pretty One aka Lola as I too know how much she was loved by you, your family & Lady Frances.

My heart goes out to you during this time & know that if I was to lose my Clara I would be beside myself with grief. As I type this I have tears streaming down my face & just cant imagine the hurt you must be feeling right now. I don't deal with loss very well & hearing of the loss of the pretty one, with whom we have shared many stories about, agreieves me deeply.

The best way to help Lady Frances through this is with lots & lots of attention as she will truly need more love & attention through this period as well & I know it will help you all, to love & hold her. Through this grief stage your solace will be to lavish attention on Frances as her healing powers will help you & the love you give her will also help her through this, until you are all ready to introduce a new family member into the mix.

Again, please accept my condolences & love to you all during this time.

Luv
Chicka-Dee

Sincerest thanks for all your heartfelt sympathy. It has meant a lot to us during this most sad time.

We are desperately seeking new friends for Lady Frances who is beside herself with grief. She is making the saddest clucking noises.

If there is anyone out there in the Yarra Valley who can assist...

Thank you.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif for your care and support.

Especially to Chickababe, jennye, and johs.

My heart and more importantly the heart of Lady Frances are broken.

Lola had a beautiful funeral and I would like to thank our neighbour for the flowers.

Lady Frances is devastated as are myself and my family.
