Hi Everyone!

Can someone please tell me if I have a rooster?? I thought it was a hen but this morning it crowed! It only did it once but I'm pretty sure that a hen would not do that! ha

I hope the attachments worked??

thanks

it looks like a hen, although not a pure bred wyandotte, and yes, hens can crow!!! sometimes the dominant hen takes on the role of the rooster......................

I hope she doesn't think she is going to crow every morning! LOL. Will have to have a chat to her!!

Yes, she apparently is a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I have named her Flossy and I think she's about 5 months old. I got her to replace a bff for my remaining hen Olivia.

She has been quarantined for 3 weeks as she had a cold and the past week she has been outside on the grass in a pen where she is interacting with Olivia. She's a bit of a whinger if she can't see Olivia or me but she is a lovely little hen and is quickly becoming quite tame.

Olivia isn't impressed and when i put them together for the first time today, it didn't go too well. However, I'm a bit wimpy and hate seeing them fight. I'm going to try again this weekend and see how it goes. Fingers crossed!

thanks

For the longest time, I thought my black Australorp was a rooster, but she's the only hen laying out of the five of them so...guess not :) She's the largest and the oldest. Definitely the top hen.

She crows early every morning and I thought that was it - you don't notice it in the morning chorus anyway (with all the gallahs, black birds, cockatoos, magpies, kookaburras...).

But last week I worked from home and she crowed until 11am! Bless her.

She's still crowing a little, not every morning thank goodness. However, she's a bit of a screamer which is driving me crazy!

I have found her a nice place on a farm where she can roam, as it looks like my old hen is not going to get on with her.

She can crow until her little hearts content and no one will complain!

Pity she is being rehomed, maybe you should have got 2 new girls instead of 1 as new bff's for Olivia, might have made the transition easier, rather than a one on one conflict of new vs old...Old girls can be rather cantankerous and territorial!

I had a road island red hen that crowed for about 5 odd weeks then she stoped and has never done it since I put it down to a chemical imbalance of some sort and it corrected its self
