The chocolate is sex-linked recessive. They are basically a dilute of black ;)

As for white in orpingtons there is dominant white and there is a recessive white

I saw some chocolate and cuckoo orpingtons on the weekend at a chaps place that I picked up some eggs from. It took him 8 years to make the colours but the chocolates are so nice and dark brown, stunning!

Hi Bill, what do you mean by sex-linked recessive? Or that a really stupid question that requires a really long answer (sorry). Total dumby with this stuff. :-D

And....how do you know if a bird has dominant white or recessive white? Is a leghorn like a dominant white and a speckled sussex got recessive white? Is that what that means?

Cheers
Chicka-Dee

White Leghorns, Indian Games ect... are Dominant

Dorkings, Plymouth Rocks, Wyandottes, Minorcas, Orpingtons ect... are recessive

Dominant and recessive white are phenotypically identical in adults and can only be distinguished from each other by breeding
