Well yesterday was a very sad day indeed as I let Clara & the 3 babies out in the main pen area to have a little scratch around while the others were out and about exploring in the big yard & when I went back down 45 minutes later one of the babies had blood coming out of a small hole in his head and couldn't stand on his left leg, so he was sort of slumped over. :(

Clara and the other two were on the other side of the pen and wanted nothing to do with him.

I have no idea what happened and can't even fathom a guess but I brought the little one back into the house and tried to clean him up but his injury was too big to try & save him and he died in my hands.

There was a lot of tears to say the least and I went to bed feeling very sad indeed. [smilie=a_cry.gif]

Once I find someone to take them away I will be putting Clara in the open air cage to get over her cluckiness. She will snap out of it in a couple of days once I put her in there, but I'm sure it won't be long before she goes back to being lucky again. I just need to make sure she gets some condition back before I allow her to sit again.

So sorry to read of your tragic loss

How is Clara? Does she know that one of her babies has gone to chookie heaven? Are you going to keep the female chick?

Oh Chicka dee, how very sad for you. It so devastating when a chick dies.

We lost one chick from our last two lot of hatchlings.

Hugs to you and Clara and the remaining chicks. Hopefully they will keep nice and safe.

Thanks PP

I don't think she does realise that. She certainly didn't want anything to do with the little one when it was sitting slumped over with blood coming out of its head. :(

Now there is only 2 chicks left I thought it would be best to sell them off together so they aren't lonely. That way I can get Clara to snap out of her mummy status.
