Yes I can see some changes coming especially when in some places like Qld the govt there is out of control making up bizarre laws to discriminate against people who ride a bike [smilie=a_holycrap.gif]

What restrictions are you talking about? If you mean the ones by councils then that is a totally different issue as that is on a "county" basis not a state basis which the story is discussing in relation to the NSW poultry industry.

Barnaby Joyce is the Federal Agriculture Minister. I don't know why he confined his comments to NSW as bird flu doesn't respect political boundaries.
As to what restrictions might be applied I don't want to argue the case for them but there is a very good case for saying that any threat is much greater where tens of thousands of small flocks are scattered across the country. An outbreak in a big commercial flock is expensive but comparatively easily managed - just move in and cull the lot in one hit.
One possibility is registration of private poultry flocks in order to be able to move quickly in the event of a disease outbreak. From there fees would no doubt follow and rules tightened over time.
All I am saying is that needlessly alarmist to point to free ranging poultry as a significant risk.
