Does anyone know if there is a difference between light barred and dark barred rocks in terms of the single and double barring genes,

I have been told that only birds with the double barring genes will pass on the barring if crossed with another breed that does not have barring e.g. Hew Hampshire reds.

I"m interested in creating Delawares (sport from a barred rock rooster and NHR hen).

Aslo does anyone know how to created Lemon barred rocks or if anyone has them in Australia

Light barred cocks have two copies of the barring gene
Dark barred cocks have one copy of the barring gene

That would be the best place to start and then line breed

There are so many chook breeds out there it would be super hard to know them all. ;)

They are a beautiful chook but I seem to find with a lot of the communications out there that they can be plagued with a lot of problems.

Not sure if that is because they (the people who bought them) have got inbred cast offs that breeders don't want or if it is just a genetic fault of the breed overall, but they do seem to have more troubles than most breeds that I have researched.

After having one myself that is quite troubled. But I still love her :-D

Was that a lemon cuckoo orpington rooster, or do you get lemon cuckoo barred rocks, Im also after white rocks, light barred rocks as well as buff rocks, can anyone help.

I created the lemon barred rocks to some degree in New Zealand using buff Orpingtons and light barred rocks, but the birds were heavy like the orpingtons and the barring was quite poor
