Thanks all than657 . I will buy some mesh to put around the bottom of the pen, sounds like a good idea so they do poke there heads out to get to the grass on the other side.

Great looking pen - certainly needs to have more chickens in it!

When I was first looking, last year, for pullets, I wanted one each of 3 different breeds and had a short list of around 7 breeds I was looking for. I used farmstock.com.au and looked every day. Finally found one person who had Barnevelders as well as the more common Australorp and RIR. We bought a Silver Campine on impulse too.

I guess it might depend on how determined you are for it to be one of the breeds you listed. Maybe place a wanted ad in various forums. Farmstock.com.au has a Poultry Wanted area too.

I hope you find buddies for your lonely girl soon

Sadly i found my new chook dead  the other day, i dont know why. She was scratching around happly in the morning & then when i went out to check on them in the arvo she was laying on her side dead. There was no signs of her being sick etc.. it came as a shock. Now my other chook is all alone again, ive ordered 2 more chooks a few weeks ago but they wont be ready to be picked up till the end of this month. Iam still scratching my head why she died conf665 .

So sorry to hear of your loss Davin [smilie=a_damnit.gif]

Chookies can be such fickle individuals and can unexplicably pass away with little warning. We've had a couple pass without any signs of illness.

May she rest in chookie heaven [smilie=a_angel.gif]

First off, so very sorry you lost your new girl..how frightening....and awful not knowing why.

Secondly, fabulous coop..love it.

I have a wonderful Appenzeller Spritzhauben you may find interesting, they can be very expensive but I found one for $8 in a backyard full of strange and unusual breeds up here in Port Stephens...so lucky...

Good luck with your growing family xxxx keep us posted xxx [smilie=a_cookiemonster.gif]
