I am not an expert on this but will have a go. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will give a comprehensive answer.
As I understand it multiple genes are often involved in producing a bantam and a first cross with a large fowl will produce an intermediate size. Subsequent crosses of these progeny will be more mixed in size depending on which genes are inherited.
The gene that produces short legs and reduced size in Japanese bantams when present in a single dose is lethal in the double dose. I don't know whether this is one of the alleles of the recessive dw gene which is often involved in producing bantams.
I have recently crossed a bantam Indian Game into some of my large Indian Game in order to produce some smaller table fowl but the progeny are still too young to assess the result.
Any more info. on this would be interesting.
