Birds die of neglect not heat stress if they were kept humanly then they would be fine and thats a fact. just ask any decent vet

Birds drink water early morning and late afternoon VERY RARELY during the day, especially on the hottest days.

3 most basic steps to hot days

1) make sure your coop in in shade from mid morning to late afternoon in summer
2) make sure your coop is well ventilated
3) make sure you chooks/birds have fresh clean water [in the shade at all times]

I am sorry  I know this is so so basic for animal care and no doubt taught at grade 1 or 2  but there are very silly people out there that have no idea and just blame it on "heat stress" or heat stroke" which is a myth in reality ;)

good_post! Cordelia, very good than657

I think people that loose birds on hot days need to be reported to the rspca for animal cruelty? and if they are in clubs maybe booted out as clubs can't afford to have that rubbish in the club

You take care of your fowls thats clear i_like1 unlike some up your way

They are both tuff breeds so the heat for healthy and properly cared for sussex and wyandotes would not be any issue at all. Only the sick, diseased or mistreated would be at risk

I have 179 wyandottes here on the farm and we had 43, 44, 47 consecutive and not a single fowl looked like they were overly troubled by the heat. In 28 years never lost a fowl in hot days. I read about a woman on facebook killing hers a week or two ago on a hot day and then blaming the heat instead of getting outside and giving them water and shade.
