This is totally my fault, but now I have absolutely no idea what to do......so I am jumping on board to ask for some help.

I have a lovely, lovely, lovely pair of 12 month old (Rooster (Lolly) & Hen (Pickle)) Aracuana's, and they are just wonderful together. I have brought them up together as a duo and they have been my pride & joy that sit on my lap & come when I call their names & are side by side everywhere they go. I have bred 4 beautiful babies from them and thought "I would love to get Lolly a couple more girlfriends so I can breed some more wonderful Aracuana's, as beautiful as my Lolly & Pickle, but....alas I have not been so successful in getting Lolly a successful matching.

First, I bought 2 girls that were younger (approx. 4 months old), but Lolly & Pickle were so nasty to them that it was just horrifying to watch & see the newbies cowering in the corner all day, every day for 3 days straight, before I couldn't stand it any longer & took the newbies out of there. So I decided to sell the newbies, as any other chickens I put in with the 2 new ones would get beaten up. I felt like I couldn't win.

Man I had no idea Araucanas could be so mean conf665

Now I feel I really can't win because I bought 4, 11 month old, Aracuana girls and they are totally beating up Lolly & Pickle. So much so that Lolly & Pickle have spent the last 5 days standing on top of the nesting box, only to come down to try & get some feed & drink. There is poo all over the nesting box lid & I really think Lolly has lost a heap of weight he is that stressed out about being beaten up by these little Araucana hens.

I really have no idea what to do. I can not believe how much of a woos he is being. I have tried to ignore it but with my Lolly losing so much weight & being this stressed out, I'm at my wits end about what to do.

Do I sell these new comers & just leave my duo be a duo forever or do I persist with the new lot of girls?

I can't see this getting better as he clearly is not garnering the respect from the girls and asserting his authority like a dominant male should.

I am just so confused...... :?: :?: :?:

Any ideas of what I need to do? thinkerg.gif

Cheers
Chicka-Dee

P.S: I out them all in a new cage at the start so all would be on neuteal ground, because I introduced on of the new quad into Lolly & Pickles old one & fighting erupted, so I thought putting everyone in a new one would be better. Not so much.

Oh dear, that's awful Chicka. Have you had them separated by chook wire so they can see, hear, smell and chat to each other without getting to each other. It may take a couple of months but they will eventually live happily in the same run. Stick with it, time is needed.

Many breeds of rooster can be woosy when it comes to bully hens
