Hi all,
I have 21 chooks, which of these I have 3 young girls, 1 before POL, and 2 just started laying on the occasion.
So in all I have 15 layers and 1 rooster plus the above.
I get on average of 2 or 3 eggs per day.
I give plenty of greens, corn and what other scraps I have on hand.
They have mixed grain that has the layer pellets in it.
Their diet is good and varied.
Sometimes I change the brand of grain.
With all that said, why are my chooks such a bunch of free loaders.
Only 2 are oldish and are excused from laying.

Any thoughts on this lack of eggs

By the way when I was in townsville I was getting around 15 to 20 eggs a day and was so stoked.
These chooks are descendents of thos chooks and have given me eggs before but this year no way.
The girls are between 1 and 4 yrs old as I have sold some. I have 2 older ones as stated but they gave plenty of eggs and are retired. One is an Austral Orp and the other a Silky. They are inseparable. They even sleep together in a nesting box on the floor. They have hay in there for their comfort and warmth.

The cold weather slows things down a bit for most.

My girls are on fire! woohoo4

I'm getting about 20 eggs a day wee.

They weren't doing so well & then I upped their protein intake.....I.e. Higher protein content laying mash, cat food (about once a week) & some meat meal from the butchers & whamo, bamo, an abundance of eggs. Plus the regular treats of veggies, micronised barley flakes etc...

You could be having the same thing happen.....low protein levels could def be worth investigating [smilie=a_chuckle.gif]

Hope this helps [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

I know this is a very late post, CD but I am still having trouble with very few eggs.
I tried higher protein and meat meal and no difference.
Could you please expand the part where you wrote (micronised barley flakes etc...)
Just what are the flakes and what is the etc bit. I am so interested and not being funny.
I have put in a new post just today. Very frustrating.

Where do I get them from.
