Hi Guys
I need your opinion as I am just reeling
at the events that have happened to me this morning, so I need to know if I am being over sensitive
or if this is also seen as a big "No No"
by you. Please give me your opinions as I am asking for them.
Scenario:So, I had organised (on Thursday) with a lady to come to my place this morning to
possibly do a swap with my rooster for her pullet as she didn't want her pullet. I had not seen a picture of her pullet but she had seen a picture of my rooster, so I was going to decide when she came if I wanted her pullet or if she was just going to pay me for my rooster and take her pullet back with her. She advised she would give me a call to let me know when she was on her way, so I knew when she was going to be at my place.
This morning I went out with hubby D, but had my mobile phone with me all along, as we were only 5 minutes from home, so I knew I could quickly get home once she called to say she was on her way.
When I got home it was 10:30ish (we went out at about 9) and by 12pm I still hadn't heard from her, so I decided to give her a call on the only number I had, which was her landline. When she answered the phone and I told her who was calling she laughed and advised me that she had already been to my place and taken my rooster out of his pen and placed her pullet in a spare pen that I had sitting next to the main chook pen where she had gone in and taken my rooster.
Additional notes: She lives 1.5 hours away from me but her first stop this morning was only going to be 15 minutes from my home. All I have is her landline home number. When I leave home I always shut my gates so nobody enters while we are gone.
Question: Now I ask you all, is it acceptable for someone to enter your closed gates, walk all the way down to the back of your property (I have 1.5 acres, which is quite a long rectangular block), walk into your chook pen, take "maybe" the cockerel that you think is the one that is to be swapped, put your pullet in another pen that is right next to your other chickens pen (before it is properly quarantined), and then just walk out, and then be shocked that the person whom you have entered their property, is upset with you when you do this?
I am just beside myself that this has happened to me.
I can't even fathom where this is acceptable behavior.
I would
never enter someone's property if their gates are closed let alone go into their chook pen and just swap the chickens like they were my own and just walk off the property without a beat.
The other issues I have with this, is that I always quarantine new chickens and have them up the front of my property so any of my other chickens are not affected by this new comer. Also, I never got to inspect this pullet and never got the chance to accept it or not.
As it turns out, it is not a pullet I would have taken, it is dirty and covered in lice and I have no idea how many diseases it could potentially have.
Also, I never got to say goodbye to my sweet boy who I cuddled everyday to make sure he was a quiet rooster that was non-aggressive.
In her defence she advised me that, I knew she was coming, so she felt it was acceptable to just leave the pullet and take the rooster. She then advised me that if the pullet was not what I wanted, then she would pay me for what I wanted for the cockerel.
The quality of the pullet is not my issue (yes it's not good that it is dirty and has lice, but these issues can be solved), my issue is that this person has entered my property, whilst I was not home and just walked into my chook pen and taken my animal away like it is something she does every single day.
Your thoughts........
Cheers
