Hi, I've been reading and hearing about people using worming tablets to worm their chooks, my questions are which brands are recommended and more importantly what is the correct method to get the tablet down the chook.

Photos on the procedure appreciated.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif

Hi PP

I've only used the Avitrol Plus so far, but I'm really pleased at how well Priscilla has come good ince being wormed with them. I tried worming her about 2 months ago with the tuff that goes in the water and I swear she didn't drink at all during the say because hen I let her out in the arbobshe would stand at the outside water dish and drink for about 10 minutes. Then when she bent down to peck at the seed dish on the ground all the water would poor out of her mouth.

Was a bit of an effort to do the tablets as a one man job, but got through it okay.

Definitely couldn't take pictures while doing it though lol. sidesplit.gif

Will see if hubby can take some pics next time it do it.

Cheers

Hi PP,

The 2 worming tablets registered for poultry are Avitrol Plus tablets and Wormout Tablets.
They are registered for pigeons and bantams.

You just catch the bird, open its beak & poke the tablet down with your finger. If you stick the tablet down the side of the throat you shouldn't have any problems.

You can then "milk" the tablet down the oesophagus by rubbing your fingers down the outside of the throat.

I have also used drontal and any of the dog wormers but this is strictly off label and usually more expensive anyway.

The wormout tablets do up to 2 kg bodyweight per tablet whereas Avitrol Plus tablets from memory require 1.5 tablets per 1 Kg bodyweight.

Tablets are a great way of making sure the birds are wormed properly and are great if you only have a few birds.
