Post subject: | How to fatten up show chickens? |
Hi, I am wanting to know what the best food is to feed show chickens as at the moment I am having trouble fattening them up. They aren't skinning just not quite as fat as I would like them I have wormed and deloused them about a month ago, as I thought that might be the problem. Is there feed out their that has a high protein level ( not too high as I don't want to over feed them or over load them) that will help fatten them up. Any help appreciated Thanks, Tiesha |

I am no expert but I think foods with high protein are best like some of the turkey foods Raf |

Hi, Yes I was told that a little turkey starter was good for them but wasn't sure if there was anything else I could give them. Its mainly the Belgians that are on the lean side while the wyandottes are doing better ( like usual). Any help appreciated Thanks, Tiesha |

Increase the corn and sunflower if your already feeding them if not you should be The turkey starter is good for all poultry and yes use that also and remember a good diverse diet is important so a good scratch mix and pellets are excellent together Greens like silverbeet is very good not lucerne chaff waste of time and money as its good for cattle only Boiled eggs is another good protein foods What breed are they? |

I agree the protein is important throughout a fowls life NOT just when they are young as bad advice would have you believe. Good advice there furnacestud LooLoo |

The breeds are bantam wyandottes, Belgians and bantam Plymouth rocks. Is there anything else I should be giving them. |
