That is one rocking good article YES can you do one on waterfowl! Love your work soozorps

Sorry but the only things I know abt waterfowl is confined to my own geese and years and years AND YEARS of observing them!

Everyone = thanks soooooo much for the support :-D [still NO smilie for curtsying !!!! ]

The next section of ‘the article’ is well under way and will probably be posted here as well – may shock a few tho sidesplit.gif as it is about breeding the fowl and my ‘methods’ have sometimes been seen to be ‘controversial’ even tho they are proven to work :-D

will be posting a few pics of some of my Cuckoo as well =

A little off topic, some of the basic points raised carry across to other breeds, with the exception that in general each breed have their own particular traits that all make the breed. It is vital to understand the type, characterstics of the breed, learn how they grow (patterns of growth) etc.

Not off topic at all really [maybe ‘left of centre’ ] but not off topic - as I agree some points can and would carry across to other breeds -

my main 'bugbear' [as sooooooooo many know] is the selling of chicks fresh off heat or birds that are gangly teenagers = HOW can anyone say “Oh that bird is going to be good” OR “that is a cull” hence the growing out and culling stages = let me say again = I believe CULLING EQUALS KILLING = do NOT present culls to the public as you ARE doing the breed in question a DISSERVICE!!!! Newbies don’t know good from bad and if they acquire ‘bad’ they are potentially breeding MORE bad ! right up until they put the birds in a show and get shot down in flames when they see GOOD birds next to their ‘not so good’ ones = have seen this so many times [sigh]

If you are not sure which to cull – ask someone trustworthy and knowledgeable to help select – and if unable or unwilling to kill the birds that are culls find someone that will do it for you – yes you might get a few dollars for the culls selling them BUT HOW MUCH HARM ARE YOU DOING TO THE BREED??????
How bad a name are you ‘cultivating’ for yourself – many have ‘gone down fast and hard’ after a year or so of selling culls. I tire of receiving phone calls and/or emails and being asked “do you know this person? I have been told by others they sell culls. I don’t want culls.” Well I cant answer those types of questions as it is very unethical to do so – it is not my call if someone else sells culls = but I can be VERY vocal about NOT selling them in the hopes that one day - - - - - - - - [Sue is daydreaming about exhibition chook nirvana - - - - - - - - ]
Waking up to one’s self – [Sue has to keep shouting loud and long = don’t sell culls!]

# morning ‘rant over’ going out to say ‘hullo’ to my birds [smilie=a_biggrin.gif]

P.S. watch the feathers fly for some of the content of this post !!
