Hello I have a breeding group of blue pekin bantams and would like to start showing and as such would like to know the standard for the blue pekin? should they have a light lacing pattern or no pattern at all? see the picture below that shows the pattern

I have some with no lace but they are lighter colour?

Thanks for the help

it is ok for the bird to have lacing. if they have lacing it shoudl be even over their whole body, not just laced in some places and not in others. similarily if it is not laced it should be evenly marked over its body with an even colour. both laced and non laced birds should have an even as possible colour on their bodies.

Thank you very much kwinagi I feel more at ease now. On the colour can the shade vary from pekin to pekin I see to get differing shades from the one hatching

I have 8 blue pekins and virtually all are a slightly different shade of blue you only notice when they are all together so I think that is normal

it is quite fine for the colour to vary from bird to bird. different judges will have a differing opinion as to the shade of blue they prefer (if you were into showing your birds :-D )

So basically if you had 8 in a class and they all varied in colour then the judge would have to decide based on his or her preference of colour shade?

How much variation is allowed in the lavender colour? I seem to get big differences in the colour almost like it is unstable or something?

If you had 8 in the class, all different shades of colour, then the best fowl in type that conforms closest to the standard that is an even consistant shade throughout should/would win.
Some breeds specify lacing and others list it as a fault.
The first and vital considerationis TYPE, then colour and as I said it has to be an even shade and consistant throughout.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

I guess a judges would have to use his or her preference for the correct colour as they see it as well, but I see what you are saying and yes it would come down to that with 8 different shades in one class. Cheers oaklands
