I am new to exhibiting the fowls and already confused on a couple of points

What the difference between "Standard" and "Type" in the show fowls please.

Type = the shape, stance and colour of the fowl
Standard = the written standards all show fowl are compared to by the judge and that is more than just type

Standard can also mean the size because there is a "standard chicken" and a "bantam chicken"

I think you need to read the standard for each breed to understand this better....

In my experience, the judge would not give you a mark out of 100......More so, he/she may discuss your bird with you (if you ask him after judging is complete)......but...be mindful....many judges do not want to offend exhibitors (especially newbies).......and so he/she may try to be very tactful about his/her comments...thus you may not feel you have their full and open opinion (if that makes sense)......also it is important to remember that judges also have differing opinions (knowledge and interpretation of the Standard as well)...so you may find (or often find, as the case may be) that the outcomes of judging can vary immensely.

But don't just limit yourself to talking with the judge......going to a show isn't just about finding out how well your own bird has done (on that day).......talk to other exhibitors both about your own birds, theirs and others....(but remember it is only oner person's opinion, and that opinion may be very subjective and biased).

hope this helps
