You have some work to do but she is not too bad. The main issue is her type but if you have or can get a good type rooster then you have a place to start Here is the ideal RIW-RC |

Hi Carly24, If you are paying that price for a RIW R/C male, I would be asking the owner if he had any spare females. I would consider that top dollar I have not seen many RIW males that should be making that sort of money. Which line is the male from? Alternatively which area. Are you looking to breed show or utility quality. If utility I would rethink paying that much for a male, if show quality go for it. Looking at the photo, your female looks like she needs more front. Her back is not nice a long or flat as per the photo posted by Bill. It does look like she is missing a few feather off the back, possibly result of mating. This time of year and the result of maiting always makes thing loook different than when in ful feather before breeding. Look at her comb, the front part is a bit "v" looking and the leader is a little high. Does not follow the curve of the head. Do a search on the web for RIW 's or Rhode Island Club of Australia or one of its affiliates. You should get some information and other photos to compare. It is generally considered the type comes from the female, colour from the male. The better the female the better change you have for higher quality chickens. RR |
