Champion Hen (female) note alien eye pattern at regular intervals on each feather and the male's type. Just like those overseas.

Thanks Stuart. The male actually won Champion Sicilian overall, beating the five hens so although he was the lone male there, I guess that means the judge thought him most worthy. These shots are not really flattering to him as he stands much more proudly than the photos show, and these shots are more diagonally side on not being kind to his mediterranean type body. These shots make him look like he has no body and a big head lol. Anyway, the two main ones above will be at the Rarebreed show this week and the male alone at Royal Melbourne.

The four things that need to happen with the above fowl are ...

1) Lock in willow legs as progeny arrive
2) The combs, especially of the male need to be more circular
3) The colour of the male needs to strengthen to the golden look of Gold Pencilled Hamburg
4) The female which clearly has the alien eye pattern on the feather, needs to be bred to achieve the same gold as Gold Pencilled females rather than the Gold Spangled which she currently displays. Mating to GPH will regulate the pattern along the feather but also keeping the shape of the alien eye pattern.

Then we shall be finished in this current season.

Congratulations Frank on your persistence and your promotion of buttercups.
I like your pullet's feather pattern.
I have a picture from an old British Poultry Standard I thought I would share.
Note pattern 25 in the bottom left. The Key reads 25: elongated spangle as in buttercups.
To answer your question, I am still plodding along. Have access to cull GPH hen with clean elongated spangle pattern and green legs. Jack has a large typey cockerel with beautiful comb so I might combine the two and see what I get.

Cheers, Tiger.

Hi Tiger, yes the spangle is excellent. I need to turm it around though to go on the diagonal the other way down the feather. No one noticed lol.

Rome wasn't built in a day. It is good to follow your progress and again, I applaud your persistence.

Did the Mediteranean Club show have any other sicilian exhibitors or were you the only one?

There are a couple of people interested in them up here (early stages) but Jack is still the only one exhibiting them.

Also, how many Andalusians did you get this year? If you know any Andalusian exhibitors that like to travel, the Noel Matthews Memorial Show in Rosewood QLD will be upping the ante for Andalusians in 2011. It is the only show I know of in Qld like it for Andalusians. The prizes will reflect that of any state title breed show and there will be classes for large, bantam and pairs, both exhibition and breeding pairs, so if anyone wants to show blacks and splashes they can find a home in the breeding pairs.
Schedules won't be out until next year but I will forward some to the Mediteranean club for distribution.
It is only in the planning stages at the moment but it looks like the Champion Andalusian will get recorded on a perpetual shield (will be kept on display but not handed out), there will be a good trophy to keep, sash and $100 cash.

Cheers, Tiger.
