I would like to get a feel from people who exhibit poultry . Some of the clubs up here have gone away from trophys and have substituted them with bags of grain or donated gifts like a set of glasses or a garden hose or whatever as they feel it is more practicle than trophys that just collect dust . Some have even done away with prize cards so you walk down the aisles and the only indicator is a chalk mark on the pen .
I know cards take a lot of time and effort ....But..
My opinion is cards are a piece of history , a result , proof , a memory , and something that can be passed down the line to your kids or grandkids should they choose to follow the fancy .
Trophys to me are the same , we have a little collection now and proudly polish the dust off , one of my daughters favourites was one of her grandmothers which now stands proudly amongst ours .and amongst them is a very old card from the melbourne royal (now framed)
Am I just getting old and sentimental or do cards and trophys still have an important place in the fancy ?

Cards are important to me and I imagine a lot of other people, especially when you have no chance of going onto win the big in show stuff.

I have all my cards (some had to be replaced) from last years Sydney Royal and as this was my first time ever showing they will be proudly framed along with the sash for Ch Polish and a pic of my rooster that won it....must get around to getting some photo paper to print it out.

The cards are my trophies and considering I don't show a lot I am happy to just have the cards.

Maybe one day I'll get one of those big memorial trophies, but till than I want a card to at least show me and others what my birds and I have accomplished.

I feel that cards, ribbons and trophies are very important in any show and should never be lost anyone can go out and buy a bag of grain but not a engraved trophy for a particular event. I also think it’s important for the kids coming through who get very excited when they win a trophy.

Winning a trophy for champion of show regardless weather its poultry, cats or dogs is expected as reward for the exhibitor’s efforts and support of the club and its show. I feel that if clubs stop giving out trophies and cards then they should expect a lot less entries in there shows.

My kids love to get their ribbons on sports day and proudly show it off to anyone that is within running distance of home.

I think it would be sad if they stopped giving out the cards and trophy’s

Really great feedback thanks , I will be printing this out and taking it to our next commitee meeting , I think some of the older 'Commitee Members' have forgotten how important those cards and trophies are and what they mean to people .

Also the people wandering through the pavillion have expressed to me that they don't know what the breeds are and who they belong to .

The method our club is currently trialling is you tick a box on the entry form if you want a card and it is sent out after the show , meaning spectators only get to see 'Major Awards' which is'nt very encouraging for newcomers and people with a rarer breed which may not always get a major award .

I allready know of one 'Serious Breeder' who has refused to show while there are no prizecards .

Even though I don't show because I don't have pure breeds I am a believer in prizes like trophys and cards for winning shows and not a bag of seed. I think sending out cards after the show defeats the purpose and takes away the thrill of winning, not to mention many people would take a photo on the day of their winning bird and would want the card or trophy included in the photo. I know in exhibition flower decoration if my pansies do well I am very excited to see if I get a prize card or not, wouldn't be the same if they sent it out later and I couldn't take photos with the card included as the pansies may have wilted
