If a club I was a member stop awarding cards or trophies or rosette or ribbons then they would only see my back as I walked out the door. ALL clubs need to attract new members especially the young ones and offering prizes is ONE way to do it. Many clubs have trophies donated or supplied by sponsors so they don't fork out for them. Cards are just as important for anyone that has one them and are usually kept for ever as memorabilia and they MUST be handed out on the day.
Cheers Drew Smith

Great topic! Great discussion!

A card would be most important to me. I'd laminate it and keep it somewhere safe. A display folder perhaps.

While I'm not a trophy person, trophies have been the traditional prize for a very long time, so I can understand why there are many who want them to continue.

While money or a bag of feed will disappear within a short time, it's more useful to me (if only for a day or a week) than a trophy sitting on a shelf.

Wine glasses? No. Give me the trophy.

This is such a good topic Ian and such good replies too. I think many clubs could benefit from reading this topic. This forum continues the tradition with magnificent Trophy’s and Rosettes for the online poultry shows

I hope tradition continues with club Trophy's and Cards well into the future

Something worth remembering folks is that the Belgian Club will actually send out "prize" packs and breed info to clubs that request it in writing. Irene does her best but she doesn't know everyone that wants a donated pack so drop her a line if you want one.

I find the same issues here but we haven't got to the stage of getting rid of cards. I just spent a full day (out of three) at the local ag show making up 45 breed champion certificates on the computer for exhibitors. They had a photograph of their winning bird inserted into an A4 certificate and laminated. It was a huge job with the programme and gear we had but the exhibitors loved them. By surpising our exhibitors with something special for their trouble we have helped double our entries in the last two years.
Some of our older exhibitors leave behind all their cards on the cage fronts but most exhibitors take them and some ask for new ones if theirs have been damaged by water or destructive birds.
I like receiving sashes, cards and trophies but when I donate trophies to a show I prefer them to be both a memento and practical. If you have kitchen goods or whatever for prizes, get them etched or engraved with the details of the win to make them unique. You are also promoting your show to whoever sees the prizes. Bags of feed and cash are fine but you will forget them in a week.
Put me down as a "for" (cards, sashes and trophies) on your poll.

Tiger.
