Good on you tiger , If anyone can help you on this one I reckon Frank can , I am in know position to comment as I had never even heard of one until I saw one of his posts on another forum a few year ago . But I am taken by them , I think I'll just have to wait until youve perfected yours and see if I can swap you some eggs for some bunyanuts  I do believe that yours will be some of the original ones bought here , even if they've lost a bit of the original purity , Definately worth perservering with anyway .

G'day Bunyanut,

I hope you are right. It would be good to clear things up.
We can't be selfish with rare breeds, numbers are needed for both genetic diversity and a safety net. Whoever came up with the saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket" could quite possibly have had rare breeds in mind.
My friend told me to keep an ear to the ground for a bloke named Frank that spent some time in Tassie and knew his way around a computer. Frank, if you read this do you know a bloke named Jack?

Frank will be back in a few days I reckon ;) I read somewhere he's doing a roadtrip and he's taking a few feathered Passengers  But he always manages to find time to log into APF ,so I'm sure he'll be able to help you out with Buttercup advice when he returns .

I must say that there is absolutely no chance of them being "pure" unless they have bred true for at least six generations, with all siblings resembling the parent stock.

I have been where you got these fowl, and there was a wonderful array of improvement going on, especially the cross outs to various hamburgs. My point is, how do you crossout and then profess purity. The work is quite worthwhile but I was concerned then, (2004) that the direction of lobe colour compromised the extent to which the fowl could be improved.

If you want the gold colour to improve, you would think going to Gold Penciled Hamburg would be the ideal, however this would be at the expense each time to the red lobes. There is the contradiction right there, quite a conundrum.

Anyway, I have emailed you with material information I think you should consider, and after that, you should be better versed to make up your own mind.

Me myself, have submitted material for the standards committee to consider, and that being a change in the standard to white lobes. Even English examples of buttercup come up with white lobes. And also Neile Mershe's line in Germany, gathered from UK are white lobed.

View the three pages on this thread and you will see some impressive pics. http://www.kelseyinfo.co.uk/cgi-bin/yab ... 1221683030

Thanks,

Jack said to say g'day to you. I know Jack well enough to know that they are probably not pure. Could they have had some pure blood in them originally or were they a creation even from the start? I know there is plenty of work to do on them but it is a project that interests me so I will persist with what he has passed on to me and the information you have forwarded.
I will aim for the white lobe because I believe it suits the fowl and fits with the Mediteranean white egg layers. I would like to hear any other changes your proposal has supported.

Tiger.

The photos on that thread are nice. They are certainly a beautiful fowl.

I'll see if I can track down the book you suggested.

Just got my reprinted version through Blackwells. The two titles are similar but the books themselves are completely different.

If you want the version I have, I will have to take some excerpts of the chapter for you from mine. There are none like it in the world on offer atm.
