Every year, I endure the constant occurance of the best fowl not being avilable for shows or displays. How would it be if the main events could be annual to coincide with the seasons so everyone could present in the best possible light?

Ah, just pipedreming. Check out the pics below and hope that the young blossum into mature adults that breed. The legs are willow but there are five toes, one to cull. Check the normal stripe over the eye, on brown chciks has been broken to emulate the original SB colour.

Ah Yes , I'm hearing you , We have the wondai show coming up , and it's at the end end of August :-? Really good for the breeding program , and this years feature is "breeding Pairs" :-? Yeh right , By now the best breeding pairs are clipped and the hens have feathers missing , Oh well maybe they'll wake up one day   I've saved a few but we won't be taking many . At least it's good to hear we're all in the same boat

The sB roo could have been the best bird in show at various royals. He never got entered for one reason or another. Then he broke his leg. People tend to judge a book by its cover and if you only put what you have available in the show, then obviously you can't have anything better.

Three years 10 months till my next show.

the show season is getting longer, how can a bird stay in good show condition from march till august------I continually breed so have young ones just looking good for show----and show what is looking ok-----the question is are u a breeder or a shower?if u are a breeder the aim is to breed good birds and the shows are fun but not importat, if u are a showman-----showing the birds and not breeding them takes precidence, thankfully there are more breeders than show men, cheers pam

All the points you raise are valid and excellent. I can't stand the showing thing. Except you can't know that I am asked to provide exhibits of what I am doing at show. This means I have to decline at times, whilst at other times, I put up an öffering " to appease the request. This is what I mean when I ideally prefer to put something up to be a good example of what I am doing. Rare breed recreation is subject to a lot of critiscism for you are judged on what you show, not what you keep locked away.

Great points Frank, what’s at home will always out way what is benched as many, top breeders don't bother showing for many reasons.

Thanks
P.A

thay are some comments worth hearing, showing at some places is very hard, i go to a few each year, 1 place i have never shown at is melbourne royal , but some of my mates do, i dont go there because , it is in september , and that is when i have my best birds breeding , and i would rather get some good ducklings on the ground , while others are showing , :-? also i would hate leaveing any of my birds at a show for a week like thay do at melbourne, ,

Check outthe pictures of the golden hen here (not the golden duckwing but the two facing each other). Also look closely at the two chicks on the bottom part of the page. My own SB chick looks likethe one on the left.
