Okay, I want my kids to take some chooks to local shows. Whats involved, is there an age limit on the kids?

that depends on the rules of the club running the show---it is usually clearly stated in the schedule-----at my local show( and poultry club) age for juniors is under 15, and we also have the rule that once they have won 3 best junior awards(poultry club) they must show in open classes===some also have the rule that the bird must be penned and unpenned by the junior, which is fair enough, always created problems for me though with limited penning , unpenning times and other sports commitments, just had to give those shows a miss :-? ------also some shows have a minimum age , a friends 3 year old was unable to show at one show last year, they had the over 5 rule-----but as I said it is usually clearly stated in the schedule----cheers p

Pam, this may be best suited in the dumb question thread but anyway-

Do you need to be a member of a club to show birds?

Some club let you show and some don't and it depends on the type of show.

sorry for slow reply was working---hate night shift----no you do not need to be a member, they do often charge different entry fees though----discounted entry for members and juniors------for club run shows, agricultural shows are slightly different, cheers p

Thanks for all the information. My boy is turning four, so it will depend on ages etc., They also have a class that allows you to show your eggs, so that might be best suited for him as well. thanks again guys.

Ella will be showing a black pekin Rooster and a Black Red Pekin Hen , AOC, at the local next weekend , Just for fun of course , She is very excited , and they put the entry in yesterday , The secretary has said she should show in two classes , a junior and open class , and it cost her 60 cents per bird to enter and free in the Juniors , We aren't really exhibitionists but it is fun for the kids
