hi ,
what i do before a show is coming up , is i keep my birds i want to show in yards that have sand spread over them,

they are givin a plastic babys bath to swin in , everyday i wash out the bath, and shift to a new spot where it is dry , and my birds keep there self clean , and on show day a simple wipe over with a cloth , then some good olive oil is rubbed into the face and legs ,

regards jase

And I know a reputable breeder who has told me exactly the same "you never have to wash a waterfowl" if kept under similar (to above) conditions. Clean sand raked regularly & clean bathing water & the birds will do most of the work for you themselves ;)

Yes agreed with all above it’s all about the day to day conditions not last minute prep

3 days before the show I get a pen (retired, converted swing set) and place fresh dried grass, straw or sugarcane mulch on the bottom. Then I get a tub for the ducks to bath in and empty it every day as well as moving it around to dry areas. I also turn the bedding over with a rake. We have sandy soil here so drainage is not a problem. The night before the show I get the duck and use a soft tooth brush to run corn starch through the white feathers, from base to tip(not against). Then getting a damp cloth I gently wipe the duck down to remove dust. The legs and feet can be cleaned with a toothbrush too but I have found a nail brush works just as well. I then trim and file the nails down so they don't scratch people( muscovies have evil claws  ). After going over the feet and legs I apply fermented papaya cream in a thin layer to the legs and feet. When I get to the show I wipe the body again with a damp cloth along with the feet, face and bill to remove dirt and again apply the fermented papaya cream to the legs ad feet in a thin layer. Don't use freshly clipped grass for the bedding because white ducks get grass stains and they are very difficult to get out :(
