Is this advice good advice? 8-12 weeks before the show, you want to pull any broken feathers. That is, broken wing feathers, tail feathers, and body feathers so they have time to grow back before the show.

Very good information.

You want the bird to be in the best possible condition on the day of the show. This includes flight and tail feathers, nothing worse than seeing a very good bird only be awarded a lesser card due to broken feathers.

Depending on the breed 8-10 weeks will generally be enough in winter.

I handle my birds every other day, that is the young birds that have made it past the cull stage. If I notice a feather broken or twisted, stress line, the occassional wrong coloured feather, out they come.

It is suprising how many birds have a "moult" the day before the show or when they are having a bath. ;)

allow 12 weeks for the larger breeds - Orpington and Brahma - talking from experience here after getting birds ready for transport to a show to find some only had tail feathers partially grown back
