I would also recommend the crawford book well written and very relevant for today’s breeding. Keep in mind he is and was very well respected for his genetics knowledge far more than any author today.

Only problem with Crawford's book is that it is practically unobtainable. Some libraries do have it though. Its a good book and the articles are written at a scientific level from the state of knowledge up until the 1970's or thereabouts.

The Muir book is an updated version of Crawfords, but is pretty close to impenetrable unless you are a quantitative geneticist & molecular biologist.

It was up dated in Jan 1st 1990. It is written at a scientific level but it is very easy to follow and understand.
