Thanks for letting us know i_like1

I cant believe they have included small producers in the new regulations. Council regulations for keeping chooks are already beyond ridiculous and now this 7_mad.gif I think its pretty ordinary that we are policed so heavily, for just wanting to keep a few chickens and now sell a few eggs on the side.

There is an online petition available and will be sent to Brian Green, the Minister for Primary Industries and Water, if they get the numbers.

https://www.change.org/en-AU/petitions/ ... egulations

At least there is something we can do to try and stop this.

not a chance of stopping this. th_Noooo.gif .....I hate to sound like a negative Nelly but when the draft proposal is given an 18 month introduction period, and that ends next month, then that means it's dun and dusted!

Petitions would just fall on deaf ears.
:(
The governments are trying to work out how to make more money other than tax as they would screw themselves into a 1 term only stint if they raise the personal tax rates so they have to work out how to raise more funds......and hey.......the poultry industry is a massive growth area so why not target that! [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

I'm not changing a stitch of what I'm doing as I do not care about breaking this stupid law.

Guess what.......I also speed sometimes  and I haven't had a speeding ticket in 12 years.

No one i sell eggs to is going to complain so I don't give a.....(bleep!)

Does the new law only apply to eggs sold for consumption and not for ones sold for hatching ? And only if selling and not giving away ?

It's all about human consumption and the cost to the government when it comes to salmonella poisoning, so it only applies to the sale &/or giveaway for consumption.

If the eggs are used for breeding purposes then I would say that falls into a different category like agricultural breeding. Where the lines would get blurry is if someone consumes those eggs then contracts salmonella; then that could be a problem.

The govt is just trying to make sure there is a clear line of traceability back to the original source. So stamping of the eggs with a clear code or symbol is how they do that so it really doesn't matter if they have been received/consumed via payment or free all they care about is tracing the source.

In Qld the major players have to stamp their eggs, so they are probably welcoming the laws as it might shut down a few of their little competitors & give them a greater share of the market, but the dudes at the market don't, so they're going to have to start doing that as they also sell to the public and that could be where there have been breakouts that are untraceable. Especially if they sell to restaurants as a small sideline business.

You watch, the next thing to follow is fines for those for purchasing unmarked eggs & using them to make foods for human consumption. Restaurants are widely know for using raw eggs for theirs foods such as beef tartan which normally is both raw beef and a raw egg on top. I couldn't think of anything worse quite frankly but people go for it! [smilie=rlp_smilie_207.gif]

The standard refers to "sale to the public" for human consumption" so I would expect eggs given away or sold expressly for the purpose of hatching would not fall within the rules.

Hmmm....that sucks.......i sure hope you are right doggo...i just give away not sell....but really feel very sorry for say, passionate backyard chook owners that just want to cover their costs not make a profit...
