Nice photos, but all of those birds are in the USA. The challenge is to find Bourbon Reds in Queensland. I have failed in uploading any photos of mine - the file is too big (guess I will have to learn more about computers...)

I love the turkeys but are they noisy?

Not really, if you have a large group of males, they can make a bit of noise because when one gobbles, they all gobble. If you say the right thing to them, or make a certain sound (eg bip the car horn) the group answer you with "gobble gobble gobble" - but only during the day. They don't get up early like a rooster. The hens make a quizzical sound, and while a bit vocal, particularly with their poults (baby turkeys) it is a quieter, gentler sound than that of, say, a commercial cross laying hen.

If you only had a few turkeys, you would only hear the occassional gobble during the day.

When showing off (feathers all fanned etc) the toms say "phhhtt!"

Regarding housing, mine like on top of the chook house not in the chook house. One fellow said he built a shelter for his turkeys but they would only ever sleep on top of it. In the worst weather, I can't bribe mine into a shed -they like to sleep on any thing high. They remind me of Snoopy from Peanuts - sleeping on top of, not inside the dog house...

Do you happen to know how many types of turkey breeds they are in Australia

Good question, I'd look on the website www.deutschersturkeyfarm.com.au and count from there. I think the different types are "varieties" and technically there is only one "breed". Hopefully someone else will provide a more authorative answer than mine...

I haven't counted, but in addition to traditional colours and patterns we have "paint" in Australia - a white bird with a splashed on looking black pattern - I have only ever seen photos.
