I have found they only get flighty when frightened and they get reasonably tame but don't really enjoy being handed,
they are fantastic pets and can be kept in something as small as an old fishtank,

Peter

Peter,

how well do quail eggs travel and how long after they have travelled can they be placed in an incubator?

I have got four quails at the moment two silver and two browns. I found that my females just lay eggs every where and then leave them

have you got a male with them?
if not they will leave them anywhere, but if there is a male present they will (well should) use their head and roll them into a nest which they have made

so she lays some eggs in the nest / "one spot" and some just anywhere,
does she leave the ones layed anywhere there? and just forgets about them?
Perhaps she doesn't realize they could be fertile, do you have any theories about it?

hi mate the quails are best 1 male to about three or more hens but 2 pair should be alright. i find that my hen lays eggs every were then sits after a while.a bit like a broody hen.after a while it will just happen
do you have a place were she feels safe(ie:shrubs, upturned pot,twigs.ect.)

hope this helps but im not the best on quails :-D

She does just that just lays about 7 or 8 everywhere in the avairy and then after about two weeks she will finally settle one one spot and lay about 4 there and stay. I think maybe like most girls she is hard to please and so just keeps laying until she is happy. She has lots of places to lay, in the grass and that.
