I have Jap quail eggs coming, so looking at building cages for them. Hubby thinks 1 inch/25mm square mesh should be fine(for base and sides), having never seen a jap quail, would this be too big? what does everyone else use?
any suggestions greatly appreciated.

My mates quail cages have really small mesh like 7mm or like. The quails are really small when the hatch hey so go with little mesh

Excellent cages congt334 well done learnerchook

Looks like you have used 1/2 inch wire? you may want to use a strip of 1/4 inch about 6 inches around the bottom [front and sides] to make sure the chicks can't get out

it was 1/2 inch weld mesh but then put bird aviary netting over that. The chicks I hatched I've put in the brooder and then put the jap quail out at about 3wks and their was no problem.
