Is this a female jap quail, was told it was a male, thinking maybe female

I think male because the breast colour and beak colour indicate male to me, has it crowed at all?

no, not that I've heard yet, do they crow only in the morning or whenever, have 8 roosters in the chook pens will he respond to their crows?

Yep if he hears another crowing he should to if he's old enough and he does look it. Mine crow mainly in the afternoon or on moon light nights

Looks like a male but I am not 100% on that I do agree the breast colour is darker and I can see the beak looks dark?

Vent sexing is the only 100% way to know for certain or have them caged individually and an egg appears.

I find them hard to sex in the light colours I try and wait for the males to trill and then I can know for sure. I am pleased to find this discussion it is very helpful

They are a little harder but with practice you can learn to sex them

Now know it is a male, saw him try and do what males do. Only problem was the female won't stand still. Hopefully this means they are comfy in their new cage and I might start seeing some eggs soon.
