Hi, I'm new to breeding turkeys, but I have some hatching yesterday and today.
I had 10 eggs and three have hatched but for some reason they didn't absorb all of their yoke. Does anyone know if this could be fatal?
2 have started to chip this morning, but I'm worried because they have done muh progress should I help them?
They seem to be a little dry but I've raised the humidity up to 80%.
Thanks so much to anyone who can help!

The chicks don't always use all the birth yoke just as long as they are ok, are they standing and moving around? also remember some eggs can take 24 hours to hatch but if it goes past that then help them out

I missed your post last week, so you've probably discovered the hard way whether the un-absorbed yolk was essential or not to survival. How did you go with the others? I only started incubator breeding of turkeys last year, and have learned a lot the hard way. Keep trying!

I get a few each year that hatch with birth yoke remaining I put it down to early hatching because of too high temperature on that day and it forces hatching. I loose about 50% that hatch early

It is also worth noting that you should not attempt to help a chick out of the shell once it has started to pip, the act of breaking through the shell and struggling to get out is what helps the chick to get moving (to put it simply), the only time that some help may be required is if the chick is half way out and stuck, ie dry or some other very obvious problem.

I have hatched out turkeys for only two years, and find the eggs sat by hens do the best, provided the hen takes her sitting seriously. I agree that hatching early with the yolk still visible is associated with too high a temperature. I've also had issues with too much humidity (drown at hatching) or too little humidity (stuck to the shell). Good luck with your turkeys.
