Anyone should be able to whip one up using a reasonably sturdy sewing machine. I have a couple of saddles here and will post a pattern when I get a chance.

I believe its 10+ years for RP but some breeds can live 20+ years soozorps will have first hand experience there ;)

Been ‘busy’ and this post has gone ahead well

On age - the oldest I have had to date was 15ish years old - BUT – [she says with a slightly bemused lilt to her voice] if I can keep a chook alive to reach 19yrs old = I imagine a turkey would have to live a whole heap longer

As to trouble with toms treading ‘severely’ and damaging the girls – yes a saddle can work wonders – but then so can a big paddock with a few ‘rocks’ and a number of bushes - sadly not everyone has that luxury tho

they are at the smaller end of the scale of all the turkey breeds
and in my opinion the most docile - but often the funniest/dumbest too depending on the circumstances  sidesplit.gif
I have many a tale I could tell about some of the stranger things my birds have gotten up to over the years - the funniest [morbidly funny that is] = a neighbour was driving up our slightly long driveway and nearly had a heart attack when she saw 2 turkeys very still bodies poking out from under the ride-on slasher section – she drove like a mad woman the rest of the way up thinking the worst – as she came to a screeching halt I stood up from the other side of the ride-on to say ‘Hi !’ only to see her deathly white face = then the turkeys pulled their heads out from under the machine and rushed over to her to say ‘Hullo’ as she fell backwards against her car  [smilie=a_doh.gif] = YEP she thought they were dead and that the mower had run them down – the fact was that they were ‘supervising’ while I did some repairs = poor neighbour but funny anyway – yes we still laugh about it

so if you want a 'pet'/bird that almost always has you laughing = turkeys are the way to go

Are the royal turkeys had to come by?
I have not seen them advertised on petlink and here which I have been keeping an eye on both
I have the 3 slate but would like another type at the end of the year

no not really hard to come by - you just have to wait for the breeding season and the poults to grow out enough so they can be transported

there will be ads here probably around end Jan 2012 to maybe March 2012 of well grown out birds that will be healthy and will survive being transported

Hi Ray
I don’t take orders as when I have in the past something has always happened = last year bad weather and only 4 poults hatched then early Autumn when our heat finally turned up = the snakes were so hungry that they bit everything that moved = yep we lost all 4 poults and they were ¾ grown too

So if I have any spare from the coming season – I will let everyone know once they are well grown as others are also interested in young from my birds.
