Is it normal for a turkey tom not to roost? The 3 girls do at the same time the chook but the tom stays on the ground is that normal? I only got him recently and I thought maybe the old owners didn’t have any ware for him to roost but then though he should follow the girls shouldn't he? Should be his natural instinct shouldn't it? Or have I just got a dud?

Yes some of them will rest on the ground rather than roost, especially if very heavy!

I grew up with and have owned turkeys virtually my whole adult life and I have yet to have any of my Toms roost = all have 'slept' on the ground - the best I have achieved is to get them to 'sit' on an old pallet covered in straw so they are at least off the damp ground
This has also helped to not rub their breast feathers away

However - one current boy will only sleep on the door mat on our front porch meaning we have a very good alarm clock!
