Look what one of my Royal Palm girls laid today !
it measures just under 10.5cm and weighs just over 160gm :shock:
the one next to it is the one she laid yesterday the one below an Orpington egg

actually - yes she was for about an hour - fine now tho and back to normal egg laying

BTW - I candled the egg = it has a single yolk so it is being set just to see if the poult is a giant too :-D

I have had a similar sized egg from one of my turkey hens the odd thing is it was here first egg she laid. It wasn't quite as big as yours but close. Was your hen young as well? I tried to set mine but it was not fertile.

As a first egg that is a bit of a worry – she may do it again so keep an eye on her for potential prolapse

My girl is 2 almost 3yrs old and never done anything like this before – but I am keeping a close eye on her anyway

Update on 'giant' egg – poult inside developing happily :-D

I too get the occasional; large egg but not quite that size is there only one embryo inside?

Eggs of that size are commonly in fertile so you are blessed it is developing I hope for you that it concludes with a hatching

Wouldn't that egg be a double or tripple yoker and if it is it won't hatch will it?
