 Post subject: Jake and Jenny in turkeys?

hello I have been told a young turkey male is called Jake and a young female turkey is called Jenny is this true? I have always refered to them as poults, I am a little confused now

I think you will find that's in the usa and its more of a school term I think

no a male turkey is called a Tom and a female is a Poult and a baby is called a Poult

Never heard of Jake and Jenny. We call them Gobblers and Hens but I know Toms and Poults are used.

yes wild turkeys in USA are widely called Jakes and Jennys - friends over there hunt them each year
[ odd when you consider that female donkeys are Jennys - cant remember what the males are called ]
domestic turkeys are still referred to as Toms etc same as here
