I just bought my first turkey poult yesterday :-D :-D
It's 2 1/2 weeks old and is apparently a tom.
I have wanted a turkey for a long time and so I'm very excited about this one.
HAS ANYONE GOT ANY ADVISE FOR FIRST TIME TURKEY OWNERS???
I'd love to hear any advise on how to raise a turkey.

Cheers :-D

Hi TG,
They are really cool. I've called this one Romeo and he is beautiful. I was told he is a bronze and I hope he is as that is my favourite colour. He is only 3 weeks old and he eats alot compaired to my chicks which are the same size. I look forward to lots of fun years ahead with him.

Congrats on Romeo Relle.

I love Yoga heaps....funny bugger that he/she is.

Sadly my other half doz eggs were clear tonight so until early next week Yoga will be the only turkey until the 4 new Red Bourbons arrive.

Greatly looking forward to a few hens and a few for the freezer.

Yoga is only about 7 weeks old but everyone that has met him/her so far has fallen in love.

Thanks b&p.

You can't help but love them. The more I looked into the turkey's the more I had to have some. I went to a breeder for a chook and he had some poults in a brooder so we took two and by the time we got home my girlfriend I went with had to have one as well. Can't blame her, there gorgous!

Do you have Yoga out on the ground yet? or still in a box off the ground?
I'm yet to find out as to what age is the best before they are good to go into an A frame on the ground.

That will be great when you get some more Red Bourbons their nice.

Another question....Do you keep Yoga by himself or with your chooks?

Relle

Hey Relle,

Have you any pics to share of your Romeo?

Yoga is doing well but still unsexed (think a hen though).

Today my 4 new Bourbon Reds arrived....looks like a Tom and 3 hens. They are amazingly gorgeous.Yoga is unsure of them as poor Yoga only knows chooks LOL.

Will post pics in a few days as soon as they get use to their new quarters and settle in a bit..than I can let them out. Can't wait to see them running around.

None are named yet but will probably have a Pilates and maybe a Gym in there somewhere

Thanks eggy. Was going to eat them but it seems the 4 I bought had been exposed to blackhead before arriving here and I ended up losing all of my turkeys.

Quite sad...even more so that now I can't get anymore turkeys in case of putting them at risk of blackhead.
