Hi I am looking to get back into raising Quail again. One type of quail that I found difficult to move from brooder to a larger cage, normally outside, after about 6 weeks in a brooder was the Californian quail. I would often take the brooder and put it into aan outside aviary and have a hatch where the birds could walk out of but they never did. If I removed them from the brooder nto the aviary they would just sit there for hours and become very stressed. They didn’t appear to adapt to changes in their environment very well at all. I had started to raise a few jap quail with them so the would pick up on eating and drinking earlier from the Jap quails and when I released the mix of both Jap and Californoan into the aviary the Jap quail woyuld walk straight out of the brooder. Has any one experienced this and what have you done to over come this? Thanks Mike |

Your problem is your going from a brooder to aviary instead of a brooder to mid cage then aviary at 10-12 weeks as I do. I have no trouble using an acclimatization cage for CC or any other breeds |

Thanks Chukar, so moving them to a smaller cage inside then to an outside avairy? at what point would you move them to the smaller cage and then to the aviary? Is the smaller cage still heated and lit and what size per number of quails would the smaller cage be? Appreciate your help |
