Well, one week of being very sick and off his feet.
This morning he was very poor, still eating and drinking but unable to stand.
This arvo he looked a bit better and managed a few forwards steps followed by backwards steps and ending up on his rear.
Tonight he is burning up again and panting.
He is very weak, any steps or standing end up with him exhausted.
Fingers crossed for a better day for him tomorrow.

Mate its well and truly time to consult a VET as its a week today you posted. The tom is suffering and you need to act to get treatment or put him down ASAP

He went to the vet about 4 days ago, he got a baitril shot (anti/penicillen) straight away and we are now orally giving him anti inflamitories and antibiotics morning and night.
He is managing a few steps this morning in the laundry which is a first.
I dropped past the vet yesterday to make sure we have enought to get through the weekend.
Whilst he is still fighting to get up and talking to us i think he still wants a shot at living.
If it gets to the stage where he can't feed or water himself then i'll knock him off.
Fingers are still very crossed, hoping he'll walk around a bit more today.

RIP Shanky
After a month of fighting he got no better and the last week he went downhill and lost the fight to get back on his feet and spent the whole time on the ground. We are no awaiting autopsy results to hopefully find out what went wrong. We just lost the most beautiful tom we could have hoped for, and now his 3 ladies are short a mate.
If anyone is headed from Melb to Perth drop us a pm as we would love to get a Top freighted over.

How did the autopsy go?

I spoke to Darryl the turkey guru and he threw a gues that it could be Aspergillosis that is a lung fungle infection that can spread to other organs, and it might have got in his brain.
The autopsy results thus far (yes they reckon they are looking further) is that Shanky had a cracked vertibre caused by a growth on the spine. He also had some abnormal growths in his lung sacks.
I am not sure if it is/was Aspergillosis and if this can be aggrsive enough to crack a vertebre or not. I will try to consult the autopsy person and mention the Aspergillosis and see if he agrees that this is whats in the lungs.
He did mention that the growth had done the damage not an injuy or fall.
I guess its a bit of closure that no matter what we tried he was never going to pull through. RIP Shanky.
In good news we had one turkey who was one month younger than the other two. He is now getting bigger than the two girls and if i part his feathers he is growing a beard, so i have another Tom. He is an angry bugger (been hen pecked by 2 girls his whole life) and is now looking a touch bigger than the two girls. Lucky for him he is now my stud Tom or else he would be sent to the webber.
