Friend just sent these photos of her Australorp "girl" which has started to crow [smilie=a_holycrap.gif] She is about 20 weeks old.

Having no experience with Australorps I was wondering if anyone can help sex her.

Cheers

I think its a boy looking at the tail feathers and also the shape of the other feathers.
Feathers that tape off to a point are male.
If they were curved at their tips this lovely bird would be a lass
Also the wattles and comb are very red
Also males become active in their maleness at around 21 weeks.
Crowing a little late but spme must be that way

Thanks Yas, not what my friend wants to hear, she lives in suburbia and it was sold as a pullet!

wave.gif HH,

I agree with Yas, I think it's a cockerel. Here's a photo of one of my girls. Their combs and wattles are very red now, but have a look at the difference with the tail feathers. The girls dip off and the boys sit up higher.

wonderful pic Chickababe shes beautiful

also a great feather shape comparison ( if I have the spelling right) to your pic HH

pointy feather ends male
curved feather ends female

I did get Lord Francis from some one who had bought him too and he was supposed to be a lass and that he was not.

Also noticed that the bird in your pics HH has a shiny plumage also a male look
