Ok what sort is this?? A friend found it in his yard the other day and it was too pretty to not bring home. Also note its leg jewellry,I say jewellry because it actually does "tinkle" when it flies/moves. Any help on breed would be great and how do I sex it???

hey b&p, i say that would be an ice pigeon, concerning sexing them, vent sex them, hold the pigeon and carefully fell 'underneath' and check the hole, if you can fit your finger in between the bones then it is a female ( wide vent), if you cant then it is most likely a male. If the pigeon coos (although it might not if it is by itself) then it is a male another point, sorry to disappoint you that that pigeon is owned, it is marked |

I wasnt 100% sure on this one (as i havent seen one of them) so i did some resurch and they look very much like Damascene/Mahomets certainly not a carrier i can say that streight away and i doubt its a ice pigeon,as for sexing vent sexing its unreliable and from just looking at the bird by its self is hard, if you are to sex them this way its better to have a few of the same type/breed as cock birds will be (most cases)larger. You can be sure of the sex as only a cock bird will coo and "show of to a hen" with the typical dove/pigeon dance with the tail low to the ground and crop enlarged and cooing and then the bobbing up and down. Thanks guys. It has the same "bands" on both legs so I am ot sure it actually owned. Have been told it may have been "dressed" for a ceremony, perhaps egyptian. Definately a Damascene/Mahomets though. Any idea where this breed comes from or does the 2 names mean it is a cross?? Ta |

Alrighty. Any idea of any breeders Stuart?? I think this one has me hooked a little. They are so pretty and their light area is actually more a silver colour. Pics really don't do these guys justice at all. |

Thats cool. I have a local pigeon club so will see if I can find a few more of these guys. Have cleared all my aviary birds so thinking maybe a few pigeons. Want some Jacobins as well. |
