Maremma's are a, shall we say, misunderstood breed of dog. Their sole purpose is a livestock guard dog. They must be bonded to whatever they're protecting from just about birth, or at least when they're weaned. They are exceptionally good at their job, and suburbia is not the place for them, if someone bonded them to their children, they should expect to spend some time in court. They will bond to whatever they're exposed to as pups, and protect that vehemently. They were imported to Australia to protect sheep flocks from wild dogs, a job, that when implemented properly, is very successful as part of an integrated system, but I do agree, they shouldn't be in town for any excuse.
