New roosts

I have to add new roosts for my hen but I want to raise them further off the ground and I have measured the height and it works out 94cm is that too high? the old ones are 60cm and they have no trouble getting up

It depends on the breed. I have Bob White Quail in with my Leghorns and with my Australorps. They both have perches a couple of feet off the ground and I just put some small branches right up in the top corners about a foot off the roof for the quail. The Leghorns all cram up there now, but the Australorps stayed with their old perches and I doubt they could even fly up there.

Just as goodoo says, it depends. Heavy meat birds can die trying to get up and down from those heights but most will do just fine. I have a friend with a high roost that he built a very nice ladder to and they ignore the ladder, just fly up and down to it with no problem.

After some help sowing them the way some are now using the roost but still have to convince the others I thought if some used it they would all use it?

It could be due to the pecking order that those on the lower order are not allowed to roost with the others. Is there adaquate room for everyone?

Yes I think so I have put them all up there are they fit ok its just some don't seem to like it?
