I have 12 guineas at the moment. They free range at all times, I collect the eggs from the wild nests and incubate them. I have 5 lavender, 4 pearl pied and 3 pearl. Anyone sell them in Western Australia? I am chasing new colours.

Hi mrpeabody, this is probably a silly question but I'll ask anyway have you tried the Pheasant & Waterfowl Society of Australia they have a branch in WA, Contact: John Hopkins Ph: 08. 9525 2204 They have advertised Guineas for sale in the past.

Thanks

I have pearl and lavender guineas. My neice has pied (I think - white splash on the chest?)
Mine are all free range around the farm - great on grass hopper control - and I incubate all the eggs from nests I find. I have a mostly bachelor flock of 30+ as foxes take all the hens that sit, usually as soon as the chick starts pipping when foxy loxy eats mum and all the eggs too. They refuse to nest in the 30mx40m chook run/orchard even though that is where they were all raised. Now if I could only get it covered in..... :-D

Hi Ginny, it's difficult to stop "Foxes" when the Guineas are sitting but as you have mentioned, a roofed pen for the breeding season is the answer.

Good Luck this season!

Thanks

I hatched over 200 Guinea Fowl this season, only hatched one "pink eye" (either cinnamon or silver), but it died 10 days later, not a very strong bird.

So far I have not been able to hatch very good pied females, always get great pied males, pure white chest and half wing, but females have fair wings and mottle chest. But they are getting better.

My pearl have dark legs and my lavender are all light legs, I believe in consistency over a mixed leg colour.

I also breed to wattle shape, all females must have flat wattles and the males cupped, if they do not I sell them. I always cull on wattles first.
