Hello toppoultry, Welcome to the "Forum"

If you mate a Pearl (Pearl is Dominant) to Lavender the offspring will be Phenotype Pearl & Genotype Pearl/Lavender. This means the birds will look like Pearl but carry the Lavender gene if you breed the offspring together you would get. 50% Pearl/Lavender 25% Pearl 25% Lavender.

The gene to produce White & Pied are believed to be the same as Peafowl, our breeding program has shown this to be true for the most part. You need two genes to produce Pied (P&W) and two to produce White (W&W). The two genes needed to produce Pied are (P) to control random markings & (W) to control white. Producing white you need (PP) gene in both birds, however this will not guarantee the offspring will be Genotype & Phenotype (W) White is an incomplete mutation and therefore has us taken over 12 years of line breeding to produce a stable Genotype & phenotype White. Most whites have appeared by accident in large flocks and are rarely reproduced as the carrier is unknown.

Pink eye refers to Sex-linked, i.e. Cinnamon & Cream.

You can refer to our Peafowl Genetics chart on our Web Site; this will give you a guide to breeding:

Genotype (the genetic make up of the bird)
Phenotype (the physical appearance of the bird)

Hope this helps

Thanks

Hi toppoultry, Unless you know the Genotype of the Pied Lavender it's unlikely you will produce white. Both birds must carry the gene (PP) and without a detailed gene test you will not know (gene testing is very expensive) as a guide you would need to focus on birds that are greater than 50% Pied therfore the percentage of possible Genotype (PP) being present is increaced slightly but NOT GARRANTEED. Line breeding the progeny will reveal this but may take several years or more. Some progeny maybe Genotype (PP) but Phenotype pied lavender, so you will need to breed with ALL progeny for the possible result of Genotype & Phenotype (WW)

As mentioned in previous post, White Guineas first appeared in large flocks as a result of random breeding, some breeders then set about stabilizing the gene, most failed. A large percentage of the original whites were only Phenotype White and not Genotype therefore only bred pieds, remember white is an incomplete mutatioin and reverts easily when unstable.

Thanks

Hi toppoultry, Cinnamon & Cream are sex-linked, you need both bird carrying the gene (C) for example

example Mating:

Male: Genotype & Phenotype (C) Cinnamon (visual)
Female: Genotype (PC) Phenotype Pearl (visual)

Thanks
