In over twenty years of chicken raising I have been lucky enough to never have a girl with Prolapse....until now...

I have found some sound good advice on the Chicken Chick about Preparation H haemorroid cream and antibiotic cream...also contrary to popular belief, the comments that are made from readers suggest the hen can survive without relapse with a very good outcome if you dont leave the hen to suffer too long and keeo up the treatment.

My question is......can I use Neocort antibiotic cream which my dog was prescribed for hotspots.

I also am amazed this has happened as her diet is high in calcium and fresh veg daily.

Cheers

Hey D, wave.gif

This is not good news about your girl :( & unfortunately I have not had a girl who has had a prolapse problem so I cant help you with your question, sorry, but I would suggest maybe sending Parvo a PM as she might know better than all of us.

Just in case Parvo doesn't get to see you post for a few days.

Good luck hun, let us know how you go

Cheers

Oh Hey Chick..long time no hear...

Yeah I called my gorgeous vet today who gave me the go ahead to use Neocort but advised me not to eat her afterwards....WHAT.???? What you smoking??

So washed her again and poked the prolapse back in place (twice)... She is so heavy and healthy with the very best condition on her so very very surprised this has happened..the smell, oh my God, nothing worse....i would gladly spread a soiled nappy on my face than have to clean up the pen after a prolapse hen...took me about four hours to scrub that smell out..she is separate now..gosh i hope I dont lose her..she is a total bitch of course, being an Isa Brown but we love all our kids equally right??

Wish me luck....oh BTW one of my new babies is a rooster damn it...you want it??

Ahhh they have to say that, cause there is nothing medical available for chickens producing eggs for human consumption, so I'd be giving it a few weeks b4 eating the eggs, either that or just give the eggs to people you don't like.

This could be the problem....Isa's should be lean, so if she's fat that could be going against her. My Ag Teacher friend told me a fat hen is not a good hen & the leaner hens are the better layers.

UPDATE

so vet said Neocort antibiotic cream Ok to use once only as long as I am not going to eat her.......Are you serious?? After looking at that prolapse its a wonder I will ever eay chicken again.....horrid sight..

So after three days of intensive bathing and walking around with a 'gloved' finger up her bum slathered in haemoroid cream, (i think I saw her smile) she appears to be back to normal...

I did have to push it back in at least seven times but i know if i didnt she would not stand a chance..it flung out about four inches...those Isa Browns put their heart and soul into laying i had to do my bit to show my appreciation....

P.S..only use haemeroid cream with no pain killer...i was advised to use Anusol as it was mildest in chemist....and keep bum very clean and make her free range all day to avoid egg laying xxxxxx
